WGSN (London)
Event Associate and Simultaneous Interpreter, 2014
My current undergraduate major, Bilingual Studies in Corporate Communications, enables me to combine my communication and critical thinking skills, helping me to excel in my internship at WGSN. The internship ignites my interests in cross-cultural management and communication-related works.
At WGSN London, I worked as an event associate and simultaneous interpreter. I consulted directly with the head of marketing department to host the Chinese delegates from China National Textile Apparel Council during the London Fashion Week in 2014. I helped coordinating clients’ daily schedules performing simultaneous interpreting and translating jobs in business presentations, meetings, fashion talks, and office tours.
I dare to say that I developed qualitative and analytical problem solving skills in PolyU and WGSN. The main reason to why I was capable of performing my tasks decently was the courses I took in PolyU that trained me to be fearless when facing challenges. The theories that I learnt in classroom were very useful in international business setting in making some ad-hoc changes to our plan and working effectively in an ever-changing world. Frankly speaking, it was undoubtedly challenging to succeed in this internship. Yet this internship helped me to realize my fullest potential, and presented me opportunities to persevere and surpass in critical situations.
Our performances were praised and recognized by our clients. I learned to work competently and independently in a fast-paced, high-stress environment. I believe that the skills I have acquired and learned from school and WGSN would certainly transfer well to any future internship positions.
